NIS celebrates talent

NIS are celebrating 10 years of NSAN membership with a very special table of employees attending this year’s prestigious UK Nuclear Skills Awards.

As regular sponsors of the UK Nuclear Skills Awards, NIS are proud to be taking previous award winners and finalists, as well as those who have progressed their careers since starting as apprentices or graduates as part of the NIS skills development programme that NSAN have played such an active role in supporting.

Jack Cottam – Finalist – Supply Chain Apprentice of the year 2015, Jack joined NIS as an apprentice fabricator / welder in 2010. He was one of our first junior STEM ambassadors, and once he’d successfully completed his apprenticeship Jack continued his education with an NSAN Bursary being used to support his journey to become our youngest ever qualified European Welding Engineer.

Alex Livesey – Winner, Supply Chain Apprentice of the Year 2014 after completing his apprenticeship Alex worked as a skilled Project Build Fitter whilst studying for his BEng (Honours) in Mechanical and Production Engineering. Alex has travelled extensively supporting a number of NIS projects in places such as Saudi Arabia and Turkmenistan and in 2018 he was promoted into his current position of Project Engineer.

Jordan Massey – NSAN SCAN funded Apprentice – Jordan joined NIS as an apprentice fitter in 2013 and very quickly embodied the NIS Values becoming a role model for those following the same journey. Jordan’s positive and professional attitude saw him appointed as Project Engineer in 2018

Andy Abrams – Andy was one of the first graduates to be employed as part of our enhanced skills programme, joining us fresh from university. Andy’s technical talent and professional commitment has seen him rise rapidly through the engineering ranks accumulating with his appointment as a Principal Mechanical Engineer in November 2018.

Josh Rewaj – Josh has been with us for just over 5 years having joined as a graduate EC&I engineer in 2013. Having excelled on a number of projects both in our design office and during testing and commissioning on client sites, Josh was recently promoted to become a Senior EC&I Engineer.

Andrew Hudson ––Whilst Andy didn’t join NIS until 2017 his CV shone due to him previously winning the titles of both Nuclear Supply Chain Apprentice and UK Nuclear Apprentice of the Year at the UK Nuclear Skills Awards in 2013. Andy initially worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at NIS before further widening his skill set in the Engineering Design team.

Richard Taffs – Richard was awarded the first ever NSAN STEM Ambassador Award in 2016. Having previously won the UK STEMNet National STEM ambassador of the Year and the inaugural RoSPA Archangel award we really couldn’t be any prouder of our super dedicated SHE Manager!

Gill Marsden – Gill instigated the NIS relationship with NSAN shortly after she arrived in 2010. Her commitment, both to our internal skills development as well as the national agenda saw her win the Outstanding Leadership in Skills award in 2012. Gills personal development continued and saw her appointed as NIS Managing Director in June 2017.

Speaking before this years event Gill said “This event has always been a real highlight for NIS, but its only when we’ve looked back and reflected that we’ve realised what a pivotal role NSAN has played in supporting both our individual careers and organisational development. I couldn’t be any prouder of the team that we’ve brought with us this evening although they are only a small proportion of the talented and committed NIS workforce that has worked tirelessly to transform our business over the last couple of years.”
