NIS hosts Nuclear SIG ISO19443 workshop

NIS were delighted to host a quality workshop for the Chartered Quality Institute Nuclear Special Interest Group (SiG) to introduce the new ISO19443 standard. The successful event, which took place on Wednesday 25th January 2017, was attended by more than 40 members of the nuclear SiG which aims to improve quality within the nuclear industry through the development of the capability of quality professionals in the sector.

As one of only 10 participants in the Civil Nuclear Sharing in Growth programme, and a leading supplier in the nuclear industry, NIS has been proactive in preparing for the arrival of the new ISO19443 standard which can be briefly described as “Quality Management Systems – Specific requirements for organisations in the supply chain of the nuclear sector”. Its intent is to be an overarching guide to quality in the Nuclear Industry Supply Chain, and it will be applicable for existing contractors, new entrants and potential new entrants.

The document comprises three sections providing guidance on:

  • Quality oversight and assurance arrangements
  • Typical contract quality arrangements
  • Quality performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs)

Speaking after the event NIS Managing Director Richard Penrose said “As the nuclear new build programme gains momentum, it has become increasingly important for us to ensure that our quality management system evolves to be ready to meet the requirements of this new ISO standard. It was great to see so many of our clients, fellow CNSIG participants and peers from across the industry at the event, and it was extremely useful to be able to share our learning and hear how others are addressing some of the challenges we all face.”
