NIS Supports International Women in Engineering Day 2018

NIS were proud to support International Women in Engineering Day 2018 by organising a careers in engineering workshop for local high school students.

On Friday 22nd June over 20 students from St Michaels and Holy Cross took part in a workshop which focussed on careers in Engineering. The day involved a tour of the facilities, hands on team building exercises as well as interviews with our female members of staff and discussions on how their careers started and how they have got to where they are now.

When the day started the question was asked “Who is interested in a career in Engineering?”, the response was zero. We are happy to say that as the day came to a close the question was repeated and approximately 70% of the group said yes!

NIS is very proud of the work we do in STEM and work consistently with schools and on projects in Lancashire, Cumbria and Berkshire. Since starting our STEM programme we have won a number of awards including STEMNET “Most Dedicated Employer”, “Most Dedicated STEM Ambassador” and the UK Nuclear Skills “STEM Ambassador Award”.
