Trainee Fabrication / Welding Inspector

We are now recruiting for a Trainee Fabrication / Welding inspector, who can help us ensure that our welding operations comply with industry standards and project specifications.

In this trainee role, we will work with you to help you develop understanding, knowledge and gain the qualifications needed to become a fully competent Fabrication/Welding Inspector. You’ll soon become an expert in the inspection and verification of complex fabricated / welded components manufactured to drawing requirements and contract specifications.

Reporting directly to the Quality Control Manager and working in close collaboration with the manufacturing team, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in NDT inspection and developing sufficient experience towards recognised qualifications (PCN/CSWIP).
  • Performing interstage and final dimensional inspection of fabrications and supporting the requirements for documenting and maintaining records associated with these activities.
  • Assisting in the development of necessary documentation and control of documentation.
  • Reviewing and verifying route cards, process instructions, engineering drawings and inspection procedures and specifications, to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece.
  • Inspecting components/products and auditing processes.
  • Analysing and reporting on materials, processes and products.
  • Inspecting, verifying and certifying materials.
  • Reviewing documentation for Lifetime Quality Records.

Person Specification

Along with wanting to enter the field of welding inspection/ fabrication inspection, you will need to have completed a level 3 apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding. Having strong attention to detail when checking work and materials is pivotal to this role as well as being able to maintain high quality standards.

We also need you to have the following;

  • Competent understanding of welding terminology used within the welding and fabrication industry that involves welding symbols, welding formation and processes used.
  • Understanding of methods used for dimensional inspection of complex fabrications.
  • Knowledge of international standards for welding equipment and welding consumables, welding practice, quality and co-ordination in welding.
  • Experience of reading and understanding engineering drawings and associated documentation.
  • Full driving licence.

It would also be ideal if you had the following;

  • Some knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • Experience of working in the nuclear industry.
