NIS Apprentices help VLHM

NIS were recently approached for help by Veterans Living History Museum (VLHM) volunteer Duncan Balderson.  The VLHM asked NIS if we could support them by designing and manufacturing a shooting range which could be transported to some of the events they attend and help to engage with members of the public.

The VLHMs aim is to “bring the museum to the people” by travelling the country with a mobile museum including hundreds of artefacts from WW1 to the present day, attending a variety of events from schools, festivals and air shows.

We were delighted to help out Duncan and the rest of the volunteers and used this opportunity for our Apprentices to gain experience in running a project from start to finish.  Apprentices from all departments came together to; liaise with the client, design, cost, procure materials, quality control and manufacture the shooting range.

Well done to our apprentices; Ellis, Oliver, Luke, Cara, Jack and Thomas, they did a fantastic job and have produced a great addition to the VLHM and we hope it will be used for years to come.

Duncan Balderson said “The professionalism shown by the project team was excellent. The DNA of NIS being passed on to the next generation is obvious for anyone to see. The enthusiasm to deliver went as far as them approaching a local material supplier explaining what they were doing and getting the material and laser cutting for free!
The team at VLHM are beyond happy with what we have received, it’s perfect and has already had its first run out this weekend with great success. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Steve and the apprentice team at NIS for the generosity, professionalism, and enthusiasm delivering this project for us.
What a team….. Outstanding! Thank you!!”
